hey when is our vocab test and what prongs are yall talking about
Omg, Mrs. Jones i just went on diseny channel.com and looked up whats playing and all this week starting tommorw the sweet life on deck comes on at 6:30! You should watch it and then tell us if thats what a semster at sea would be like!!!!:):)
Apparently "they" want students to complete a survey about technology in our schools. If you have a second, fill this out. I haven't done it yet, so I can't tell you how long it will take, but if you complete it and have a comment, come back and let me know. Do you see technology in use at our school? Do you want to (Emma, ignore this question)? What technology would you like to see? Specifically in an English classroom what would be beneficial. Other subjects? Is technology only useful because it makes things "interesting" or does it have a greater benefit? If I had money that HAD to be spent on technology (I don't so don't get excited) what would you want me to spend it on? Would you even want your textbooks online? Do you prefer powerpoints to handouts? Would you employ downloadable lectures or discussions with authors via Itunes or some other venue?

MS JONES!

Okay, so I'm finishing up my research for Ronald Reagan and I came across a question. For the middle prong where I'm doing 'what he did' would you suggest giving a brief overveiw of a bunch of things he accomplished or a more indepth look at just a few of the most important things he did?

bibliography

Hey, I'm working a book bibliography and the section I am doing has a different author than the cover on the book. What should I do with this on the bibliography card?
Research papers going well?

Class Plant

Okay, so I dont know if you remember, but I said I would start growing a plant for the class. I started growing a few flowers. Like a wildflower mix, snapdragons, etc. Their not having the longevity that I would like them to have. So I was seeing if anyone had a specific plant that they would like me to grow that could be brought to school and kept alive that would have better longevity. I know of a few, but I want to see other classmates perspective. So whichever plant you want me to grow, just let me know. I was such a rhyme master right there, without even trying!

Shotgun

Haven't we all wondered if there were rules to certain proceedings in ones life, I have!
Which leads me to post a post about the rules of calling shotgun. Theres a website called shotgunrules.com that anyone who wants a good Thanksgiving laugh should look at:)
its fairly amusing and I can put a check mark on my list of certain proceedings in my life that in fact have valid and universally acknowledged rules:P

Schedule.

Mrs. Jones I forgot to ask you this today, but I met with the counsler and Im trying to schedule my classes so I have a very good chance of getting into Chapel Hill. I added AP Psychology to my schedule next semester, but the only time it is, is fourth block, which conflicts with you AP English. Is there anyway I could switch to third block, I know Bryan is, so I thought if we could work something out, I could as well. Thanks Alot:) have a swell weekend!

Monday, November 16, 2009

Hey Mrs. Jones I was wondering if we are going to gett anymore time in the libaray to work on our reserach papers aka our junior projects (jk):) because I saw on the sheet that we were suppose to go today and friday but we didint have time to go!
I ran into Mr. O'Briant today and he said he only made it to page four in Gatsby. If you see him in the hallways you should casually ask him about his reading; maybe it will encourage him to keep reading.

Study Guide for Great Gatsby

Hey guys! Some of you were asking about a study guide for The Great Gatsby in class on Friday. I found one online!!!

Chapter 5
1. Why does Gatsby deliver so many goods and services to Nick's house?

2. Describe the effect of rain on the plot.

3. Why does Gatsby offer Nick work? How does Nick feel about this?

4. Explain the significance of the green light.

5. Why does Gatsby get so many phone calls? What does this say about him?

Chapter 6
1. How truthful was Gatsby when he relayed the story of his life to Nick? Why does Fitzgerald tell the story of Jay Gatz now?

2. Describe the meeting of Tom and Gatsby. What does this meeting reveal about them?

3. Why did Daisy and Tom find Gatsby's party loathsome?

4. How did Gatsby measure the success of his party?

5. When Nick told Gatsby that "you can't repeat the past", Gatsby replied, "Why of course you can!" Do you agree with Nick or Gatsby?

Chapter 7
1.Who is Trimachio? Explain how this describes Gatsby.

2. Describe Daisy and Gatsby's new relationship.

3. Compare George Wilson and Tom. What did each man learn about his wife and how did they each react?

4. If Daisy says she's never loved Tom, is there someone whom she thinks she loves?

5. Describe the fight between Gatsby and Tom. What do these men think of each other? How are they similar and how are they different?

6. What was significant about Nick's 30th birthday?

7. What do you think Tom and Daisy were saying to each other in the kitchen? Do you think that

8. Tom knew Daisy was driving the "death car"? Why, why not?

9. At this point, how would you end the novel?

Chapter 8
1. How does Fitzgerald achieve a melancholic mood in the beginning of this chapter?

2. How are seasons used in constructing this novel?

3. Who is Dan Cody and what is his significance in Gatsby's life?

4. How does Nick's statement "You're worth the whole bunch put together" show a change in Nick from the beginning of the novel?

5. How does T. J. Eckleberg affect Mr. Wilson?

Chapter 9
1. Why did Nick take care of Gatsby's funeral?

2. How was Jay Gatz's childhood schedule consistent with the adult Gatsby's behavior?

3. Who attended Gatsby's funeral? How and why is this significant?

4. What is the purpose of Nick's last meeting with Jordan?

5. Why does Nick call Tom and Daisy "careless people"?

Post Reading
1. Does this novel have villains and heroes? Why, why not? If yes, who fits into these categories and why?

2. Nick is both part of the action and acting as an objective commentator. Does this narration style work? Why, why not?

3. How did Fitzgerald use weather to reflect the mood of the story?

4. Again, why are we still reading a book written in the 1920's? What gives a book its longevity? Which of its themes are eternal in the American psyche?

hope it helps!!! (the website was www.teachervision.fen.com )

Water on the Moon

So NASA discovered water on the moon and they plan to try to set up a permanent residence for Astronauts to live on. I think this is completely ludicrous, what if their drilling affects our lunar activity? So not only do humans think they have the authority to completely destroy Earth, we also want to venture into space and destroy our moon. God, help us.

spread the stupidity :)

my friend sent me this in an e-mail quite some time ago, but i thought it may humor some of you.....enjoy :)

Spread the Stupidity
Only inAmerica .........do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America ........do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America .........do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America .........do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America .........do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

Only in America ....do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

EVER WONDER ....
Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin ?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe even a chuckle)...in other words, send it to everyone. We all need to smile every once in a while. :)

The Smile by Blake

There is a Smile of Love
And there is a Smile of Deceit
And there is a Smile of Smiles In which these two Smiles meet.
And there is a Frown of Hate
And there is a Frown of disdain
And there is a Frown of Frowns Which you strive to forget in vain.
For it sticks in the Heart's deep Core
And it sticks in the deep Back bone.
And no Smile that ever was smil'd But only one Smile alone.
That betwixt the Cradle and Grave It only once Smil'd can be,
But when it once is Smile'd There's an end to all Misery.

Question:

For the HF project, would it be okay if i have a picture with guns on it? Or is that against the school rules or whatnot?
