I had to post this, seeing as the whole world will be gearing up to watch
the beautiful game of football (soccer). I, and millions, if not billions of others, have been waiting
four years for this. I especially, have been waiting longer to see an event like this take place on
African soil. I don't know why most Americans don't appreciate football, but I'm hoping people will take a couple hours off just to watch one game. If you're cheering for the
American team, don't expect them to go past the quarterfinals, but anything can happen. Also, some people need to understand the magnitude of this event.
The World Cup is a
ridiculously huge event. The biggest sporting event in America is the Super Bowl, right? That draws around 100 million viewers. In comparison, the world cup draws 7 times as many viewers, with viewer ship nearing
1 billion. People in third world countries who are living in
slums will find a way to watch the game, so you should as well. Anyway, in short,
watch at least one game of the world cup. I posted a really nice commercial for the game and a song called
Wavin' Flag by the Somalian singer K'Naan. Word.
K'Naan Waving Flag (World Cup Anthem)
Forza Auzzuri!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to watch some, but I don't get any sports channels. D8<
K'naan is amazing as always. Great anthem for the World Cup! <3
I actually watched a little of this last night. Ghana and Serbia maybe?
ReplyDeleteFirstly, the world cup is rigged. I love a good match of footy. But as with everything else is modern times, money has become what controls these games.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the most biased opinion for me to have, because Ireland did NOT qualify.
But hopefully some underdog will win, because god knows England doesn't deserve it, and (SORRY) America won't even make it into the quarterfinals.
Also I think its really sad that Mr. Mandela's granddaughter died in that car accident the opening day of the games.
He's pretty kick-ass, you know for a 91 year old who overthrew the apartheid regime.African culture is really cool. And I'm pretty jealous that I'm not watching some of these games live.
I agree with you Aisha. I can understand why you would be upset. Ireland really got screwed over with that handball incident.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping an African team will win it. That would be amazing. And it really is sad that Mandela's granddaughter died. I hope he will get a chance to speak in one of the games.
And let's be honest, the U.S. tied England due to the failure of England's goalie. They'll need to actually score if they want to win. I feel really bad for England's goalie though
"He's pretty kick-ass, you know for a 91 year old who overthrew the apartheid regime." - Definitely
